GEEZ Louise! (Growth, Education and Empowerment Zone) is a feminist agency working with women of all ages.

GEEZ Louise! strengthens, supports and values all women, regardless of their histories and backgrounds.

GEEZ Louise! provides a safe physical and emotional space for women and girls to explore who they are, learn skills, find balance and then go out and change the world.

Feminism is for everybody!

Feminism is political , economic and social equality between women and men.

Feminism means women and men have access to the political process and their voices are heard.

(Did you know that Iowa is one of two states that have never had a woman governor or sent a woman to Congress?)

Feminism means women and men earn equitable salaries for equitable work.

(Did you know women currently earn $.77 for every $1.00 that men earn?)

GEEZ Louise! is educating women and the community about the rights and responsibilities of women and men, about the definition of feminism and promoting understanding that feminism is good for everyone!

GEEZ Louise! provides advocacy services, direct education, skill building and spiritual programming for women of all ages with an emphasis on high school and college age women.  Community education and monthly awareness activities are held to educate the community on the needs of women and girls.  Direct programming and advocacy services  include but are not limited to: summer and after school programming, intergenerational feminist groups, energy work and skill development activities.

Love Your Body

Anti-pageant!!

Women and girls spend billions of dollars every year on cosmetics, fashion, magazines and diet aids. Traditional beauty pageants value women solely by how well they fit into conventional beauty standards. The judges, audience and other contestants scrutinize women's bodies, hair and faces in a process that is a statement of submission, of making the body an object of someone else's pleasure and preferences. Not only do pageants uphold certain beauty standards that are dangerous and offensive, they pit women against each other as enemies competing to achieve impossible perfection and win approval.

The Love Your Body Anti-pageant was held November 18, 2008 at the Hoyt Sherman Gallery.  Metinka Slater, Meterologist, served as the EmCee for the evening.  She facilitated the evening with grace and shared her own wonderful personal stories.

The Love Your Body Anti-pageant was everything the traditional pageants are not.  This was a true celebration of sisterhood.  We embraced and learned from 7community women as shared their personal stories of growth and self acceptance.
